The Power That Actually Changes You. Be Transformed by God's Power!
When we talk about the power of God, most conversations drift quickly toward the dramatic: miraculous healings, signs and wonders, supernatural manifestations that leave people breathless. And while none of that is wrong to discuss, there is a dimension of God's power that rarely gets the spotlight it deserves. It is quieter than a healing, less visible than a miracle, but arguably the most profound display of divine power that any human being can witness. It is the power of transformation.
Consider this: a person could receive a miraculous physical healing and still be unchanged on the inside. The body restored, but the heart still hardened. The sickness gone, but the pride, the anger, the fear, and the unforgiveness still firmly in place. Transformation, however, reaches into the deepest parts of a person and changes what no surgery, no medication, and no self-help program ever could. It changes who you are.
From the Outside In, or the Inside Out
The world shapes people from the outside in. Circumstances, trauma, culture, and pressure mold us into versions of ourselves that are often far from what we were created to be. Romans 12:1-2 speaks directly to this reality, urging believers not to be conformed to the pattern of this world but to be transformed by the renewing of the mind. The contrast is striking. The world conforms. God transforms. One works from the outside in. The other works from the inside out.
That inner work is what the New Testament calls sanctification, and it is not passive. It requires cooperation. God is not a thief who takes what belongs to you, and He is not an abuser who forces change upon you. He invites. He works in those who are willing. As Philippians 2:12-13 describes, believers are called to work out their salvation, because God is the one working within them, producing both the desire and the ability to do what pleases Him. The Greek word used for that working is energeō, meaning to be active, to operate, to produce an effect. God is active inside of you. The question is whether you are letting that energy do its work.
The Sliver That Festers
Think about a sliver lodged under your skin. If you leave it, it festers. It swells. It causes pain far out of proportion to its size. But if you remove it early, there is almost nothing to it. Many people carry slivers of unforgiveness, shame, fear, and grief that have been festering for decades. These are precisely the things that God's transformational power wants to address. Not to expose you, but to heal you. Not to condemn what you have been, but to build what you can become.
2 Corinthians 3:18 describes believers as being transformed into the image of Christ from glory to glory by the Spirit of the Lord. Notice the tense. Not "you have been transformed" in a single moment. You are being transformed, continually, progressively, as you yield to the process. That means transformation is not a destination you arrive at. It is a direction you choose, again and again.
What This Power Actually Produces
Ephesians 3:16-20 connects the power of God directly to inner strengthening, to being rooted and grounded in love, to being filled with the fullness of God. Colossians 1:10-11 ties that same power to patience, endurance, and joyful perseverance. These are not the qualities of someone performing miracles on a stage. These are the qualities of someone who has been genuinely changed.
And this is where the rubber meets the road. It is relatively easy to stand in front of a crowd and make grandiose claims. It is something else entirely to be patient with a difficult person, to forgive someone who genuinely hurt you, to respond with gentleness when anger would feel so much more satisfying. That is transformation. That is power.
Galatians 5 lays it out plainly, contrasting the works of the flesh, which include rage, jealousy, selfishness, and strife, with the fruit of the Spirit: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Every person who has ever lived has known the works of the flesh from the inside. The transformational power of God is what makes the fruit of the Spirit not just an aspiration, but an increasingly lived reality.
Grace That Teaches, Not Just Forgives
One of the most misunderstood truths in Christian life is the role of grace. Many assume that grace simply means God overlooks how we live. But Titus 2:11-12 describes grace as a teacher. Grace teaches us to deny ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live soberly, righteously, and godly in this present world. Grace is not a license to remain unchanged. It is the very power that makes change possible.
This is also why 2 Timothy 3 describes people in the last days as having a form of godliness but denying its power. The power being denied is not primarily the power to perform miracles. It is the power to be changed. People can wear the label of faith while remaining lovers of themselves, proud, unthankful, unforgiving, and brutal. The form is there. The transformation is not.
The Greatest Miracle You Will Ever See
A proud person becoming humble. A hateful person learning to love. An unforgiving person releasing decades of bitterness. A fearful person becoming steadfast. A selfish person becoming generous. These are not small things. These are extraordinary things. And they do not happen by human willpower alone.
The Apostle Paul, who described himself as the worst of sinners, became the man who wrote much of the New Testament. That is not a story about miraculous ability. That is a story about transformational power.
If you can look at your life six months ago, a year ago, and see a genuine difference in how you respond, how you love, how you forgive, and how you treat the people around you, that is the power of God at work. And if you cannot see a difference, the invitation is still open.
God does not want a version of you that performs Christianity. He wants a transformed you, changed from the inside out, becoming more like Him, one yielded moment at a time.
